Concept Research

Welcome to my second Devlog for Soulless. I started this week by researching the three different possibilities of games I wanted to make. However, I found out quickly how much strain would go into making a 3d game of any sort because as a game designer whose origins are art. I feel the urge to do all the art I can for the game not wanting to use asset packs.

Due to me being more skilled in 2d art and animation. I decided to stick to my strengths by making a 2d game in order to fulfil my artistic needs. I quickly gathered any resources I could find on making a 2d game in the Unreal engine because the content for 2d on UE5 is limited in comparison to Unity. However, I have no choice because I only know how to program using Blueprints.

I surprisingly found more content than I initially anticipated. But in doing so I wasted no time using Trello to organise how and when I'll be using the content I found.

The research this week made me feel confident and committed to the 2d sphere. Therefore next week I will follow this by using the one-pager I initially created to work on developing a much more elaborate game design document, which is the first and most important task I put on my Trello board.

Two
